CATACOMBS OF SAN GAUDIOSO

The project's objective of the was to create a 3D digital and online model of the monument of the Catacombs of San Gaudioso, a visual tool that will help online visitors to gather valuable information and get a sense of the historical value of the monument.
 

Digital 3D models such as the one that was created provide inclusivity to all communities of people, especially ones that cannot reach the heritage site due to disability issues such as this one, that is underground and does not have a ramp or lift. The 3D model offers a designed guided tour that can help immerse the online visitor inside the monument's rich history.

Inside the digital twin fragile tangible and intangible parts of a monument that are at risk are preserved, such as the valuable frescos inside the catacombs, in danger due to the dense humidity and changes in atmosphere due to crowded visitation daily.  

The project included expertise workshop's for the members of the Cooperative of the Monument, in order to provide knowledge on Innovative means of technology focused on digitization & preservation

The digital copy of the monument is open to be enriched with more historical information, for more interactive guided tours to be created, even educational courses for children
